Automobile And Fuel Efficiency – An Important Connection

There was a time when choosing an automobile involved assessing the power of the engines, the level of maintenance required and the various dress fabrics options available for the upholstery. Today, one has to spend a lot of time assessing the fuel efficiency of the vehicle instead. Why?
Environmental pollution, high cost of fuel, long term maintenance costs and the availability of hybrid vehicles has complicated the issue. The Environmental Protection Agency releases a list of best and least fuel efficient vehicles. 25 years ago, this proposal would have been laughed out of the market. Today, people are not just relying on these the details but also checking out the various other details offered by many automobile magazines to find the most fuel efficient vehicle.
According to Consumer Reports, the best sub compact car in terms of fuel efficiency is Honda Fit while the worst is Chevrolet Aveo. It is pertinent to note that the former provides 30 miles per gallon while the latter provides 25 miles per gallon. Hence, there is not a lot separating the best from the worst.
Volkswagen Golf TDI is the best in terms of small wagons while the worst is Scion xB and Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. The difference between the best and the worst is 15 miles per gallon.
It is important to check whether the comparison is based on fuel efficiency alone or whether it includes other details like the level of maintenance required and the possibility of altering the vehicle into a hybrid device.
